General Timeline of the Teltonika IoT devices
Innovations in IoT technology started to rise in the 1999 when the official Internet of Things statement was accepted in order to promote RFID technology. But while everybody was uncertainly discussing and speculating about the future of IoT, founder of Teltonika Arvydas Paukstys was already on the way to help people by creating the first Teltonika’s IoT device. If you come to think about the first Teltonika IoT devices, these inventions are rather simple, but their impact on business caused it to transform to what Teltonika is today.
1998-2002: The early 2000s were a worldwide transitional period where wired communication became mobile. Generally speaking this period reveals a process where mobile communication providers granted mobile connection accessibly for everybody. However, intervention of mobile connection technology also required additional cost and most of the small business was not ready to jump into mobile connection era. Correspondingly to this situation there was a market gap where first Teltonika IoT device was orientated. With an idea to measure conversation duration, Teltonika presents its first IoT device. But mobile communication technologies became wide used and such devices like conversation duration were no longer needed. On the other hand it was a beginning and a good lesson to the new IoT security project.
The “Guard GSM” was another trial project which suddenly became successful. The main idea was to create an IoT hardware which will control external sensors to make corresponding security actions.
2003-2005: Taking advantage of the increased IoT popularity Teltonika launched several devices responsible for remote control of physical objects. Keeping the idea that the Internet of Things had to transform into an automation system which using multiple technologies over the range Teltonika presented first GPS tracker TBOXN12GPS.
Today Teltonika TELEMÁTICA VEICULAR devices are world leading tracking hardware for aftermarket and OEM application. Besides the quality vehicle tracking production, in 2005 Teltonika developed its first vehicle tracking software -TAVL. The aim of this application was to manage received data from telematics devices such as GNSS trackers to get real-time insight into driver behavior and asset management.
Talking about global impact of fleet management, today the market size is more about 150 billion euros including services and software. Furthermore the global GNSS downstream market revenues from both devices and services are forecast to grow from €150 billion in 2019 to €325 billion in 2029.
2006-2008: It was the period during which connected technologies started reshaping the way we understand the Internet of Things. Thousands of new WEB based platforms, increased demand for machine to machine communication and remote management started changing the way we interact with people and infrastructure. Meanwhile, “Teltonika” released the first routers based on mobile network technology back in 2007. Interestingly, the first RUT100 routers are still used in specific industry sectors today.
This marked is the beginning of Teltonika Networks. From the very first RUT series products to the current comprehensive portfolio of 17 devices, we have kept our focus to offer the market most valuable networking devices that are secure, reliable, and Fácil de usar. 2009-2012: By the end of 2009, having a basic cell phone wasn't good enough anymore. Despite the economic recession the people this year were still searching for valuable approaches how technology could improve the quality of life. Teltonika was also taking a part in a searching of uncommon IoT solutions. And in the end of 2009 we launched new generation personal tracker GH3000 with Voice/SMS communication and Man-down feature. This point was the beginning of successful Teltonika personal tracking business direction. The 2011 was exceptional period for Teltonika due to modernization of manufactory which creates and additional production channel which allows us to move near our 10 million IoT devices milestone. Furthermore additional amount of devices encourage us to prepare “Fota”,” Remote Tachograph download” and many more IoT software solutions which help our IoT devices to match all our clients’ needs.
2013-2016: The influence of the internet and the constant spread of information prospered an expressive term “Big Data”. A vast amount of information has been challenging every business sector from agriculture till renewable energy. Due to those challenges companies were looking for an effective way to manage and easily represent the information to the customer. Generally speaking, the main idea was to create the most comprehensive user experience by integrating “Big Data”.
This period has been a challenging time for Teltonika too. In order to find our success key to the combination of well-prepared user experience and “Big Data” we started our “Easy Key To IoT” campaign. Combination of cutting edge technologies, know-how and leadership in designing & manufacturing was the straight way to refocus our scope into the Easy IoT. Since the beginning of 2016, every new device was organized to be easy understandable for every user. New remote management functions and redesigned devices are the reflection of our “Easy Key To IoT” direction till now.
2017-2020: So many new technologies have appeared in the past three years that it’s impossible to list them all. But the major role is assigned to robots and artificial intelligence. Today You will be not surprised about “Industry 4.0” or “IIOT” terms which are the result of successful robotics and artificial intelligence combination.
As soon as we started “Easy Key To IoT” campaign we also paid much attention to increasing the efficiency of the company. Many products have been upgraded: automated soldering, testing, assembly, and other manufacturing aspects have been made more efficient. By optimizing these processes, we naturally produced more products, which became the major path to the 10 million IoT devices deploying milestone. As the result of the fast manufacturing optimization Teltonika had also presented new generation devices for network solutions RUTX and advanced LTE/GNSS terminal FMM.
The 2019 is also the beginning of the Mobility department which is now facing new challenges over three main topics: Micro mobility, Asset tracking and Personal tracking.
