IMPROVING DEVICE CONFIGURATION PROCESS WITH TCT WEB VERSION

INTRO

According to a report by Fortune Business Insights, the vehicle telematics market was valued at $79.17 billion in 2023 and is estimated to reach $170.35 billion by 2032. With over 25 years of experience in the telematics business, we know that successful clients tend to cover a few industries. They are addressing multiple challenges that are increasing the need to mitigate risk, improve operational efficiency, and overall productivity.

CHALLENGE

With the growing demand for vehicle trackers in the IoT industry, companies are faced with increasing time and costs associated with configuring and updating these devices. As businesses expand, the need to configure more devices requires the hiring of additional technical and support staff to manage these tasks. Having multiple platforms for device management, while necessary, is not the best choice. Staff often spend a lot of time navigating between these different systems, leading to inefficiencies and wasted resources.

Fleet management service providers may have many projects and companies to manage at the same time, making it difficult to keep track of all the configuration files. Especially when they are not all the same and have specific configurations for a particular customer. Files can no longer be managed completely manually as the risk of sending the wrong configuration settings to customers' GPS trackers is pretty high.

Even more, when training staff, it is usually not easy to pass on knowledge of the tracking device configuration. Every new employee in the company needs to fully understand how to use the file configuration system. Training takes time and requires multiple resources.

Finally, each company has its own policies and procedures. They also have different hardware and software that employees use to perform their daily tasks. For companies with different operating systems (MS Windows, Linux, or MAC OS), it is complicated to manage the same software that is not fully adapted to work on all operating systems. Especially when the solution is delivered in a desktop version that is not available for all systems. This makes it difficult to manage resources and takes time to adapt to new tools, but Teltonika has a practical solution to offer.

SOLUTION

To optimise fleet device management, Teltonika offers its customers comprehensive platforms designed to facilitate both the initial setup and ongoing maintenance of GPS trackers. To minimise the need for individual configuration of devices, Teltonika offers TCT (short for Telematics Configuration Tool) platform, which allows our clients to create configuration files that can be remotely uploaded to multiple FT trackers, saving significant time and effort. TCT is available in two versions - an MS Windows application and a web-based solution.

We offer our customers FOTA WEB platform for the remote update and maintenance of Teltonika GPS devices. This software solution allows customers to effortlessly update device firmware and configuration settings, ensuring that all trackers remain up-to-date and fully operational. Beyond updates, FOTA WEB also supports efficient management of companies and end users, as well as provides robust debugging tools to quickly resolve issues that may arise.

The integration between FOTA WEB and TCT web version helps to increase the efficiency of the service provider's operations. Easily accessible through FOTA WEB on any operating system, TCT web version allows you to create a configuration from scratch or edit existing ones. Let's take FTC921 tracker as an example to show an operating principle.

How it works - when Teltonika customer receives FTC921, it is already registered in FOTA WEB account. The first step is to log into FOTA WEB account and click TCT icon. If the user chooses to create a configuration, TCT will automatically open in a separate web window. The customer is then presented with a list of FT trackers to choose from and must select FTC921 model to configure it. All required device configurations can be easily created on the web platform and saved to FOTA WEB for further sending over the air to these devices.

This streamlined process eliminates the need to navigate through multiple platforms, saving valuable employee time and effort. If a configuration update is required, TCT web version allows existing configurations available in FOTA WEB to be edited and modified parameters to be saved as separate files, reducing the amount of traffic required for further file transfer to the FT platform devices. Even if the original vehicle tracker configuration is not available, FOTA WEB can request it from the device, edit it in TCT web version, and send the changes back.

The ability to save the configuration file directly to FOTA WEB account not only reduces the processing time but also eliminates the need to store the files elsewhere and minimises human error by sending incorrect configuration files to devices. TCT solution itself is not only easy to navigate but also has a setup guide that walks you through the most important settings and gives the user tooltips explaining what certain parameters are for.

This feature allows the company to reduce training time and ensures that the employee can find answers to questions about the system. In addition, the current availability of TCT on the web means that the solution can be used on different operating systems, ensuring that customers do not have to change their internal processes and policies regarding the use of specific operating systems.
